Horses we Honor

THis page is dedicated to those that have crossed and await us at the Rainbow bridge. Their legacy lives on as we continue to do what we can for those in need.

Bonnie

Breed/Sex: Clydesdale Mare

Size: 16 hands, Approximately 1,850 pounds

About Me: Bonnie awaits us on the Rainbow Bridge. Bonnie came to Hay Burr Inn on August 21, 2014 as an owner surrender. She came to us totally untrained but learned quickly. She was a very calm and lazy girl and would think anything is a treat! Bonnie loved the time with the volunteers grooming her. For the few of us who were rode her, we all knew she decided where she went regardless what that may mean for you.

Boo

Breed/Sex: Arabian Cross / Ghost Paint Mare

Size: 14.2 hands, Approximately 800 pounds

About Me: Boo crossed and awaits us on the Rainbow Bridge. She came to Hay Burr Inn on October 17, 2015 with Clyde from animal control. She was sweet and gentle with everyone she met, and despite her battles with cancer, she remained kind and patient until the end.

Clyde

Breed/Sex: Belgian Gelding

Size: 17 hands, Approximately 1,800 pounds

About Me: Clyde crossed and awaits us at the Rainbow Bridge. He came to Hay Burr Inn on October 17, 2015 with Boo from animal control. He loved to follow the volunteers around, especially if that person had a cookie! He was a very quiet and calm gentleman who enjoyed spending time under the pear tree.

Copper

Breed/Sex: Chestnut Appaloosa Gelding

Size: 16 Hands, Approximately 1,200 pounds

About Me: Copper crossed and awaits us at the Rainbow Bridge. He came to Hay Burr Inn in June of 2013 from a transport trailer that was headed to a kill pen. Copper had an understanding personality and was the most gentle soul. He did not care if you did not know how to do something, and he would patiently wait until you figured it out. Also, he would often pat you down for treats and gave the sweetest hugs. He was the herd leader until laminitis made it impossible for him to get around on the trail. He spent his last days with Don Quixote, watching over the minis and those closest to the barn.

Don Quixote

Breed/Sex: Grey Painted Donkey Gelding

Size: 10 Hands, Approximately 600 pounds

About Me: Don Quixote came to Hay Burr Inn on September 4, 2016 as an owner surrender. His previous owner had rescued Don from transport to a kill pen. He was stoic and kind, and the gentlest at taking cookies. Even after his life-threatening bout with Botulism, he continued to thrive and enjoy all of life’s little moments. He loved to wander around the barn in the mornings and was often found roaming freely around the front of the property. He was quiet and shy and was completely devoted to his girlfriend, Oreo. He stood watch over Copper in his last days, and remained most days with our mini herd as their protector until he passed. Don’s story continues to serve as a reminder that the hard work done here at the rescue truly can save and change lives.

Ginger

Breed/Sex: Arab/Morgan Cross Mare

About Me: Ginger crossed and awaits us at the Rainbow Bridge. She was a sweet and shy soul who enjoyed the quiet company of her closest friends, Clyde and Mocha. Ginger loved to “dance” when getting her “pony pedicure” (aka hooves picked), and she had the cutest “bunny hop” when she was trotting around the field. She self-identified as a mini early on in her stay here at Hay Burr Inn and enjoyed the company of our littlest herd members until her final days.

Mocha Latte

Breed/Sex: Miniature Horse Mare

About Me: Mocha Latte crossed and awaits us at the rainbow bridge. Mocha Latte was strong and determined to have a good horsey life, but she was always so very fragile. We made her comfortable, loved her, and gave her friends with which to live her last few years. Mocha Latte was our poster child as she thrived and gained weight not long after her arrival. Mocha was a sassy pony with many opinions! She taught us to care for her gently. She was a sweet girl and enjoyed spending time with her best friend, Ginger, until her last days.

Oreo

Breed/Sex: Paint Miniature Horse Mare

Size: 9.2 Hands, Class B, Approximately 350 pounds

About Me: Oreo crossed the rainbow bridge and awaits us there. Oreo came to Hay Burr Inn in August 2013 after being rescued from the kill pen. She did sustain an injury to her right shoulder while she was there, unfortunately, but she was the gentlest miniature horse and did not complain about anything except the number of cookies you give her as there was never enough! She spent her days as a part of our mini herd, under the protection and adoration of Don Quixote.

Sarge

Breed/Sex: Grey Appaloosa Gelding

About Me: Sarge crossed and awaits us over the Rainbow Bridge. He was a branded and retired ranch horse who came to Hay Burr Inn after being rescued from a kill pen. He was a gentle soul, and his best friend was Copper since, “Us Appy’s need to stick together!” He was such a beautiful mover and enjoyed romping in the green fields with his friends. He was sweet and patient with all of those who cared for him.
