Celebrate the life of the horse that started it all here at Hay Burr Inn Equine Rescue & Sanctuary. Copper, our Appaloosa, crossed the rainbow bridge on December 8th. We are going to hold a memorial in his honor on Sunday, December 20th at 1pm. Please bring your stories and pictures to share. If you can find it in your heart to donate in Copper's memory. Your kind donation will help us continue.

From our Founder, Cynthia Haberin:

Copper has left us the same way he lived his life: on HIS OWN TERMS. Copper passed with dignity and peace. Copper touched so many lives. He was a favorite of many due to his loving demeanor and outstanding beauty. Copper affected our volunteers and visitors, as well as people we will never know, he brought happiness and so much knowledge about horses.

This is our time to say wait for us at the Rainbow bridge to our amazing, quiet, calm, patient teacher. Copper has recently become tired and ready to move on. His job with us is done, he loaned us his strength and caring. He taught all our rescue horses to be respectful and the volunteers to realize they can do more than they think. Copper was trusted with anyone from 3 years of age too much older. Copper was the first horse people learned to do vital signs on, blanketing, brushing, and medications, and find it isn’t so scary. Copper taught us to face our fears with love, compassion, and strength.

Copper absolutely adored people and was so very happy to welcome our numerous visitors at the rescue farm events. Copper will be missed terribly. He lived at Hay Burr Inn far longer than anyone imagined. Copper was an anomaly, a conundrum, our veterinarian and farrier were baffled he put up so long with the issues he had. He lived happily as an amazing horse. And Copper lived a full life, giving us love and devotion despite his ongoing health issues.

Copper will always be known as the perfect horse. I will miss him terribly. I will cry for quite some time, for my own sake. My best friend left us today. Copper is waiting on the bridge for me, happy and pain-free, galloping the lush green fields this chestnut appaloosa basking in the sun enjoying his reward, beautiful, safe, and a healthy horse again. I will remember him forever.
