From our Founder, Cynthia Haberin:
Our sweet, beautiful petite unicorn has galloped over the rainbow bridge. Boo has been fragile for some time with heaves and cancer. She was an older lady, It was a privilege to care for her these last few years. Her calm presence will be missed. Boo was a quiet and kind unicorn. Boo was loved by our volunteers and visitors alike.
Boo enjoyed attention from the newer volunteers. She welcomed them, never challenging just loving their attempts to learn about horses. She would allow anything except please do not try to take her temperature. That was a boundary no one crossed. Other than that she was kind to all people.
Boo was also quite the intelligent clown. She opened the barn sliding doors with gusto. She was first at the gate to be fed, banging loudly to be noticed. Boo made us laugh while she played in the water trough. Her real claim to fame is escaping. If a horse was loose, we knew Boo had gotten through the fences, usually by going under. Then Bonnie would plow through the fence and sometimes the others followed as Boo led them to grass and fun times. Boo also gave that OTTB a good run, she was usually in front due to the knowledge dinner was the reward.
Boo arrived with Clyde when Hay Burr Inn was a new 501(c)(3) equine rescue. Boo is a ghost paint, grey and white horse, they arrived at the end of October, this is where she got her name. So appropriate for her, quiet and kind. She welcomed all the added horses when they arrived. In my opinion, she let the scared ones know this is a good place and helped calm them with her quietness. Boo was one of our horse ambassadors, she got along with all the horses and helped spread rescue love.
Boo joined Copper and Clyde, her two best friends, now part of the HBI herd in heaven. I am more than sure they are enjoying lush fields together running and playing under the rainbows, with no fences. I am sad we are no longer allowed to care for her, but happy she is pain-free. Our gorgeous quiet sweet unicorn will be missed.
We welcome all your reminisces of Hay Burr Inn and Boo.
